Check the status of a referral
If a clinician has referred you to a local hospital or local service, you should be able to see the status of your referral by checking NHS App.
If this doesn’t work, you can still contact us.

Doctor’s letters, insurance reports, taxi medicals, and other non-NHS work
The NHS doesn’t cover every service. The following are examples of administrative tasks that are not covered by the NHS.
- ‘To whom it may concern’ letters
- Fostering and adoption medicals
- Taxi driver medicals
- Insurance reports and life insurance applications
This list isn’t exhaustive. We’ll help where we can, but remember that this work isn’t covered by the NHS, and it’s at the GP’s discretion if they are willing to complete the task.
To arrange non-NHS work (‘Private work’), please come to reception where the job will be assessed and a charge will be taken upfront. Our usual timescale for this work is 28 days.
Evidence for Universal Credit applications, or PIP applications
A doctor’s letter is not necessary for application for either benefit.
A print out of your medical summary (a ‘brief summary’) will be enough. Our receptionists can print this off via reception, or you can do this yourself using NHS Online services.
